Monthly Birthday Wishes
When we were trying to decide what the foundation could do for ovarian cancer patients, we remembered that 80% of of ovarian cancer patients only live for an average of 2 years from the time they are diagnosed. The main reason for the short life expectancy is that most ovarian cancer patients aren’t diagnosed until their cancer is Stage 3 or 4 because there is no test for ovarian cancer. Kelli had 3 birthdays during her 2 1/2 year illness and she cherished each one. We can remember where we celebrated all of them. That’s why we started the monthly birthday wishes.

Beth finished her 6 chemo treatments about a month ago and was meeting with Dr. Fort last Thursday to review her CAT scan results. Beth had to retire from cleaning houses after the flood in 2016, her husbands health deteriorated and she was no longer able to leave him alone. After Beth’s diagnosis, her sister in-law had to take care of her husband until he had surgery on his foot and Beth’s husband is now in a long term care facility which is difficult for both of them. Mona restarted chemo a few months ago and she is such a strong person and a trooper even in the face of such difficult circumstances. While all of this has been going on, her husband who has had 3 surgeries and his own health problems and her son in law who is 38 years old, has also been diagnosed with a rare cancer. FEBRUARY 2017 BIRTHDAY WISH
February 2017 recipient of the Kelli Leigh Richmond Ovarian Cancer Foundation Monthly Birthday Wish of $1000.00 was Lisa Sylve of Walker, La. I met with Lisa and her husband Nathan yesterday at the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, right after Lisa had received a radiation tre.(80% of ovarian cancer patients only live for an average of 2 years.) atment, I presented her with her $1000.00 Birthday Wish check. What an amazing couple!! They have had a long journey battling her stage 4 ovarian cancer that Lisa was diagnosed with way back in January of 2002. God truly has a plan for Lisa to let her live with ovarian cancer for almost 15 years.(80% of ovarian cancer patients only live for an average of 2 years.) Lisa has had about 10 or 11 surgeries, over 6 rounds of chemo treatments and now getting monthly radiation treatments. Along with fighting cancer, Lisa and her family lost their home in 2006 during hurricane Katrina and moved to a home in Walker that was in a "NO FLOOD ZONE". Their home has been flooded 5 times since moving in. I can't imagine what her and her family has been through these past 15 years. How ever meeting with Lisa and Nathan yesterday, you would never be able to tell that they have had any problems from their "CAN DO ATTITUDE". Our Sweet Kelli had this same attitude while dealing with her cancer. Lisa has never wanted anyone to feel sorry for her and her family. Just like Kelli said many times, Lisa said, God gave us these cards and we are playing them!!! As you can see from the length of this story, this family really touched my HEART! I always ask our Birthday Wish recipients what they have planned for their donation. (there are no restrictions on what they can do with it). Lisa said, that her children are sending Lisa and Nathan on a well deserved cruise soon, and she had been praying about some spending money. Now Kelli, has answered her prayers with the Kelli Leigh Richmond Ovarian Cancer Foundation's $1000.00 monthly Birthday Wish. By the way, Lisa's birthday was Feb 13th. I can't relay to everyone the Blessings that Patsy and I get from the passing out the Birthday Wishes to such outstanding and deserving family's. I have to thank all the people who donate to our foundation and donate and attend our Annual Fundraising Gala, which this years Gala, the 4th Annual "Kelli's Party for Ovarian Cancer Awareness" will be Saturday August 12th. (Mark your calendars, more info to come) Without every ones help, none of this would be possible. Please keep Lisa and her family in your prayers!
